Angela Bassett revealed she is proud of her son, Slater, for issuing a public apology for participating in a TikTok trend, which involves tricking a loved one into believing their favorite celebrity died.
After receiving backlash for posting a video of himself telling his mother and father, Courtney B. Vance, that Michael B. Jordan had passed away as a prank, the 64-year-old actress praised her teen for holding himself accountable for his actions.
‘We all make mistakes, own up to them, take responsibility. and then hold your head up and move forward,’ she told ET at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Creative Impact Awards.

She went on to call the trend ‘harmful’ and said it was a ‘teachable lesson’ for her child. 
Earlier this month, Slater issued an apology to Michael B. Jordan after receiving backlash for the since-deleted TikTok.
After removing the video from his account, Vance then shared an apology, stating, ‘I would sincerely like to apologize for taking part in such a harmful trend.’  
 ‘I apologize to Michael B. Jordan’s entire family, his extended family and Michael directly as he is an idol of mine and taking part in a trend like this is completely disrespectful,’ he continued.

‘I don’t wish any bad ramifications of my actions upon his family nor my parents as they deserve none of the backlash,’ the teen said. ”I own this was a mistake and I hope this can be a teaching lesson to anyone else who uses social media as a tool and a source of entertainment to truly understand that your actions can have consequences that extend beyond you.’
He wrapped up the recording saying, ‘I apologize for any hurt that my actions might have caused Mr. Jordan or my parents or anyone else who could have been involved in this, and I am truly, truly and sincerely sorry.’
The original 20-seconds-long now-deleted clip showed him asking, ‘Did you hear this: Michael B. Jordan dead at 35?’
