TikTok was the most downloaded app globally this year, according to the latest report from mobile app analytics firm App Annie. TikTok has been downloaded the most this year on Android and iOS.
TikTok has beaten Facebook to be the most downloaded app this year. Facebook is now the second most downloaded app followed by WhatsApp. App Annie even predicts TikTok to break the 1 billion monthly active user (MAU) club in 2021. This year, it secured the eighth position among apps with the most number of MAUs. TikTok also rose to the second position for consumer spending this year. Tinder continues to lead this space.
“TikTok’s tidal wave continued throughout 2020 — particularly as content-hungry consumers flocked to the app to create, socialize and stay entertained — even increasing its cross-app usage with major video streaming players like Netflix, indicating that TikTok is not only blurring the lines between social and streaming but is a force to be reckoned with in the streaming world in its own right and is set to break into the 1 billion monthly active user club in 2021,” App Annie said in its report.
Zoom was another breakthrough app this year with video communication booming due to the pandemic. Zoom’s position climbed up 219 spots to become the fourth most downloaded app globally. Among the other breakthrough apps this year, Google Meet was also one which stood out in terms of downloads. Disney+ also had a breakthrough year as it expanded globally to more markets. It also ranked fifth for consumer spend.
