The highly anticipated series Wednesday dropped on Netflix last week starring Gen Z’s favorite IT girl Jenna Ortega. Playing the titular character, the show follows Wednesday Addams as she navigates her new life at Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. While viewers had their own opinions about the show, people have been buzzing about Ortega’s acting choices — such as how Wednesday doesn’t seem to blink, foregoing asking the original Wednesday herself, Christina Ricci, for acting advice so she could make the character her own, and the now iconic dance solo she performs at the school ball. With all of this in mind, Wednesday has taken over social media platforms, TikTok in particular, with everyone talking about that creepy, kooky dance scene.
Clad in a wonderfully Wednesday-esque black gown, Wednesday has her main character moment at Nevermore’s Rave’N Dance ball when she pulls out her best moves to “Goo Goo Much” by The Cramps. TikToks have flooded in with creators trying to replicate the jive themselves.

In a video where the Wednesday cast reacted to the dance scene, Ortega revealed she was the one who invented the sequence herself. “I actually felt really insecure about this. I choreographed that myself and I think it’s very obvious that I’m not a dancer or a choreographer,” she states. She later tweeted about her inspiration for the moves and TikTok fans pointed out the similarities to another Wednesday dance scene in the OG The Addams Family 1960s sitcom.
Thanks to Siouxsie Sioux, Bob Fosse’s Rich Man’s Frug, Lisa Loring, Lene Lovich, Denis Lavant, and archival footage of goths dancing in clubs in the 80’s. Helped me out on this one. https://t.co/zlxlv1JUW4
