Announcement from Deputy Director of Social, Off-Platform Curation Travis Lyles, Curation Desk Editor Kenisha Malcolm, Head of Curation and Platforms Coleen O’Lear and Director of Next Generation Audience Development Phoebe Connelly:
We are pleased to announce that Jillian Banner will join The Post as a social video producer for the Next Gen politics team.
Jillian has deep experience producing vertical video to engage audiences and a keen sense of what catches people’s eye as they scroll feeds, timelines and other off-platform surfaces.
Jillian joins us from the Poynter Institute, where her fact-checking-video work on the PolitiFact team stood out for its uniqueness and experimental nature.
She initially joined Poynter to work on a year-long project to connect local newsrooms with a Gen Z audience through social media video. When that assignment ended, Jillian stayed on at PolitiFact to lead its video production on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
Jillian earlier worked as a video fellow at the Atlantic, making short documentaries and explainer videos. Before that, she was an AmeriCorps member doing video production for a nonprofit.
Jillian is originally from Los Angeles and graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota with a degree in cinema and media studies. In her free time, she likes to run, go to movies and shows, and play pickup soccer.
Jillian starts on Monday. Please join us in welcoming her to The Post.
