“It was the biggest shock of my life,” Duane Swenk said. “Turns out people wanted to see an old bald headed guy cutting soap and telling stories.”
Jennifer Swenk first began making soap about five years ago.
"I started making candles because my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and I wanted to make healthier candles for her to burn,' Swenk told WXII.
She then turned the hobby into a business out of her guest bedroom, hoping to make a little extra money.
Sadly, Swenk would lose her mom, but the candle-making business would continue to grow. Eventually, Sparta Candle Co. moved into a storefront on Main Street.
Jennifer's dad Duane took a job as an employee as part of his "semi-retirement."
