TikTok is hiring for seven senior posts based in Johannesburg, some with responsibility for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.
And the jobs suggest it is keen on growth in South Africa and the broader region, both in content and revenue – with some people in Johannesburg holding responsibilities for places as far afield as Pakistan.
One job, for a content partnerships lead, seeks someone to lead a team due to “acquire, onboard and foster strong relationships with content partners”, with a focus on public figures, publishers, and top creators.
Another, for a distribution business development manager, who will work with mobile telecommunications companies to set up “concepts from inception to pilot to scale”.
That job can also be done from either Lagos or Nairobi, TikTok says.
A separate position, a growth manager for partnerships in South Africa, seeks someone to help run advertising campaigns on TikTok, and to create relationships with the media planners and buyers in advertising agencies.
Others in the Johannesburg office will hold a bigger brief. A security operations manager TikTok is looking for will help manage the guard teams at physical sites throughout a region the company refers to as METAP: the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Pakistan.
Rather than deal with agencies and creatives, that person will be expected to set up a working relationship with law enforcement bodies and first responders in various countries.
