Tennis star Coco Gauff has revealed she “scrolls on TikTok all day” when she is not competing.
The 18-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the US Open after a close encounter against China’s Zhang Shuai.
She delighted the home crowd with a 7-5, 7-5 victory, setting up a last eight clash against Caroline Garcia.
Gauff was also competing in the doubles tournament alongside Jessica Pegula, but a first round exit left her unsure of what to do with her free time.
“I just practise and then scroll on TikTok all day, to be honest,” Gauff joked.
“I like, set screen-time for myself but I’ve been putting in the password every time so I haven’t been following it.”
Gauff is in the form of her life, reaching the US Open quarter-finals for the first time in her career. She also made the final of the French Open in June, losing to world number one Iga Świątek.

“It feels insane,” Gauff said. “Ashe Stadium chanting my name, I was trying not to smile.”
“It was really physical, it felt like a three-setter. I really think my mentality helped me today.
“I’m so happy, being in my home Slam and finally getting to a quarter-final. This tournament has always been special for me, growing up watching it. I’m just so excited to continue to play and experience this atmosphere.”
It will be a tough encounter against Garcia, who has an unbeaten streak of 10 matches. The Frenchwoman has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for only the second time in her career.
“She’s obviously been playing really good tennis, I’ve been playing well too so I think it’s going to be a great match,” Gauff said.
“No matter what, win or lose, I know I’m going to give it my all.”
Ajla Tomljanović and Ons Jabeur have joined Gauff and Garcia in the quarter-finals so far.
Świątek, Pegula and Victoria Azarenka are among the tennis stars competing in the round of 16 this evening.
Was once mistaken for a famous volleyball player despite being 5ft 6in. When not celebrating or lamenting the latest Arsenal result, I’m more than likely writing or talking about women’s sport.
